Android Accessibility User Guide

Applicable to : Pax Devices 

This guide walks you through various accessibility features available on an Android device. These settings are designed to assist users who may have visual, hearing, or dexterity impairments, making the device easier and more comfortable to use.

Accessing the Accessibility Menu

  1. Open the Settings App
    • From the home screen, tap the Settings icon.
  2. Locate Accessibility
    • Scroll down and tap on Accessibility.
    • The Accessibility screen will appear, listing various options and services.

Key Accessibility Features

1. Captions

  • What It Does: Allows you to enable subtitles (closed captions) for any supported video content on your device.
  • How to Use: Tap Captions, then toggle it On. Configure caption style (text size, background color, etc.) as needed.

2. Magnification Gestures

  • What It Does: Lets you zoom in on any screen by triple-tapping, useful for users with low vision.
  • How to Use:
    1. Tap Magnification Gestures.
    2. Toggle it On.
    3. Once enabled, triple-tap the screen anywhere to zoom in or out. Drag with two or more fingers to move around the screen.

3. Large Text

  • What It Does: Increases the default text size on the device, making it easier to read for users with limited vision.
  • How to Use: Toggle Large Text On. The device will automatically scale text larger system-wide.

4. High Contrast Text (Experimental)

  • What It Does: Enhances text contrast against the background, improving legibility for users with certain types of visual impairments.
  • How to Use: Toggle High Contrast Text On. This feature is labeled “Experimental,” which means it may have limited effect in some apps.

5. Power Button Ends Call

  • What It Does: Allows you to press the device’s power button to quickly end a phone call without having to tap on-screen.
  • How to Use: Toggle Power Button Ends Call On. Then, when in a call, press the power button to end the call.

6. Speak Passwords

  • What It Does: Makes the device read out each character as you type passwords, which can help some visually impaired users.
  • How to Use: Toggle Speak Passwords On. Use with caution if you’re in a public environment.

7. Accessibility Shortcut

  • What It Does: Enables you to quickly enable certain accessibility features (e.g., TalkBack) by pressing specific buttons or using certain gestures.
  • How to Use: Tap Accessibility Shortcut and follow the on-screen instructions to configure the shortcut of your choice.

8. Text-to-Speech Output

  • What It Does: Configures the text-to-speech engine that reads on-screen text aloud (used by features like TalkBack).
  • How to Use:
    1. Tap Text-to-Speech Output.
    2. Choose your preferred text-to-speech engine and adjust settings such as speech rate, pitch, and language.

9. Touch & Hold Delay

  • What It Does: Adjusts the amount of time before the system interprets a long press. Helpful for users with motor impairments or those who find it difficult to tap quickly.
  • How to Use:
    1. Tap Touch & Hold Delay.
    2. Select Short, Medium, or Long, depending on your preference.

10. Color Inversion (Experimental)

  • What It Does: Inverts on-screen colors, making light areas dark and vice versa. Can help users with certain visual conditions.
  • How to Use: Toggle Color Inversion On. Note that it may affect the performance or visibility of certain images.

11. Color Correction

  • What It Does: Helps users with color blindness or other color-vision impairments by altering the color palette.
  • How to Use: Tap Color Correction, enable it, and then choose the correction mode that suits your vision (e.g., Deuteranomaly, Protanomaly, or Tritanomaly).

The user guide is a generic user guide for Android and may be slightly different for the type of hardware and Android versions

The retailcloud app may not have some limitations on some of the accessibility features that Android natively offers
