Manage your BigCommerce online account and automatically sync your products and inventory to easily manage your online orders and sales.
eCommerce is all about selling products online and at the same time maintaining variety in every aspect of a product. It is a diverse platform where every product has its own properties viz, size, color, price, etc.
For online store owners, whether large or small, it is impossible to manage all this information and stock status in an inventory manually. Further, if an item is out of stock, it needs to be added in time so that the customers do not switch to another site.
But how is that possible without the manager being informed about the stock status? Here is where inventory synchronization of online stores holds significance.
Connect to your BigCommerce account and automatically sync your merchant details.
Navigate to Settings → Integrations → BigCommerce
During BigCommerce setup, users can configure the following:
- Store#: This is the store ID of your connected online website.
- Location: This is the store to which the online site is connected.
-
Item Sync Enforcement – Controls which items are eligible for synchronization.
- When disabled (default): All items that are enabled for eCommerce will sync to BigCommerce, regardless of location entitlement.
- When enabled: Only the items that meet both the following conditions will sync to BigCommerce:
- The items is enabled for eCommerce
- The items is entitled to the selected location
- Connect – Establishes the connection with BigCommerce.
Once the account is paired, you will be directed to the page where you can manage the BigCommerce online account.
Item Sync Enforcement
The Item Sync Enforcement toggle determines how products are selected for synchronization.
Enabled (ON)
Only items that meet both of the following conditions will sync to BigCommerce:
- The item is enabled for eCommerce.
- The item is entitled to the selected location.
Items that do not meet both requirements will be excluded from synchronization.
Disabled (OFF) – Default
All items that are enabled for eCommerce will sync to BigCommerce, regardless of location entitlement.
This setting maintains the existing synchronization behavior.

Sync Products
By default, the sync matches products between online & BigCommerce using their SKU values. For example, if you have a product named 'Apple iPhone 11' with SKU equal to 23456 on BigCommerce, and a catalog item 'iPhone 11' in retailcloud POS with ItemID equal to 23456, we treat those products as matching and sync the inventory between them.
Note that our platform is flexible and allows us to customize any aspect of the synchronization. The products can be matched by name, price, or any other way. You can also enable/disable SKUs that should be synced and which not, in case you don't want all product details to get synced. Click here to learn more
Sync Inventory
A customer visits your e-commerce store and places an order. But, where does your e-commerce store get the product from? Without this information (product and inventory) the e-commerce store cannot work effectively.
For example,
- You are a retailer where you manage product and inventory information independently in your e-commerce and POS systems.
- A customer visits your e-commerce store, explores the store, and really likes an item.
- He/ She visits the product details page and finds that the product is available in the required size and is in stock. He/ She places an order!
- After a few days, the customer receives an email that his/ her order is canceled because that product was out of stock and inventory information was not synced with the POS system.
If this situation happens there is a very high chance that the customer might never come back and even recommend other customers to not buy from you.
With integration and synchronization, your E-commerce and POS systems will always be in sync with each other and you can very easily avoid scenarios like these.
Inventory sync will minimize back orders, improve customers’ shopping experience make it easy to sell on multiple channels, build trust and confidence with your customers, manage product information, inventory management, etc.
For example, the inventory information sync can be taken to a different level when the inventory is managed and maintained in multiple warehouse locations. This would then require businesses to maintain the warehouse and inventory information in the POS system and then sync the information back to the e-commerce system.
For example, selling 1 (Master SKU) product reduces the inventory quantity of the Master SKU by 1, CHILD SKU1 by 1, and CHILD SKU2 by 1 (the whole bundle).
Optionally, when there are no more CHILD SKUs, then it automatically shows the MASTER SKU as 0 or sold out.
Product Sync Toggle
BigCommerce allows product data (such as name, price, and description) to be synced automatically from retailcloud to your connected BigCommerce store. You can choose whether products created or updated in retailcloud should be automatically synced to BigCommerce, or whether you want to manage your BigCommerce catalog independently through the Product Sync Toggle.
When Product Sync is Enabled (default setting)
- Any product you create or update in retailcloud will be automatically synced to BigCommerce.
- Updates include changes like product name, price, and description.
- By default, product sync is enabled for all connected BigCommerce accounts.
When Product Sync is Disabled
- Products created or updated in retailcloud will not be synced to BigCommerce.
- No changes are made to your BigCommerce catalog.
- This allows you to manage your BigCommerce products independently, without risk of retailcloud updates overwriting your changes.
- Disabling sync only affects product updates. Other integrations with BigCommerce (such as order or inventory updates) will continue to work normally.
- If you disable sync, remember that any changes you want reflected in BigCommerce must be made directly in your BigCommerce store.
We’ve enhanced our product sync to ensure variant attributes such as Size and Color now sync correctly between retailcloud and BigCommerce.
Order Edit Handling - Refund Transaction
Manages order edits made in BigCommerce that involve reducing item quantities. When the quantity of an item is decreased or an item is removed from an order in BigCommerce, the retailcloud system automatically creates a refund transaction for the adjusted quantity. This ensures your retailcloud records accurately reflect the changes made in BigCommerce orders, keeping totals and inventory synchronized.
- Normal Order Sync: When you create a new order in BigCommerce (without any discounts or taxes), it automatically appears in retailcloud with the same items, quantities, and totals.
When You Reduce Item Quantity: When reducing the quantity of an item, retailcloud creates a refund transaction for the reduced quantity. The total amount in retailcloud updates to match your revised BigCommerce order.
- When You Increase Item Quantity: If you increase the quantity of an item, retailcloud records the change as a new sale transaction, ensuring the additional quantity is reflected in your sales data.
- Editing Multi-Item Orders: When you reduce the quantity of one item in a multi-item order, only that specific item is refunded in retailcloud. The other items stay unchanged.
Order Sync Start Date Toggle
Users can configure an Order Sync Start Date for BigCommerce, to provide a greater control over when data is synchronized between BigCommerce and Console to prevent updates to older orders from synching.
Once this toggle is enabled and start date is defined:
- Only orders created or updated after the selected date will be synced.
- Updates made to older orders (such as refunds, status changes, etc.) will not be synced into the system.
- This helps prevent historical orders from being modified unintentionally due to changes made in BigCommerce.
