What is a Meal Card?
In simple words, a meal card is a voucher or a prepaid card issued by companies to give their employees a tax-free food allowance. Businesses can load prefixed meal amounts in the card, which employees can use to purchase food or drinks. Companies can collaborate with meal card organizations to get meal cards for employees that they can use to make digital payments.
Meal cards are a hassle-free method for employees to choose whatever they want to eat.
How do Meal Cards work?
Meal cards are typically debit cards, but they can only be used to purchase food, drinks, and groceries at certain locations. They are based on a digital payment system and need preloaded funds to purchase items.
Employers decide on the amount that will be loaded onto the card as per the policies and seniority levels. Once they receive the meal card, employees can use it to purchase meals either by swiping or scanning the card at any POS machine.
Configure Department Eligibility for Meal Card:
Login to Console, navigate to Catalog → Attributes → Department to select the department eligible for meal card transactions.
Processing Transactions with Meal Cards:
Add items to the shopping cart and select Meal Card as the payment method. The system will highlight the eligible amount in green.
Completing Payment with Split Tender:
If there's a remaining balance, it can be paid using another payment method as part of a split tender transaction.
Managing Eligible Amounts for Multiple Meal Card Uses in Split Payments:
The eligible amount for meal card transactions decreases with each use in a split payment scenario. For instance, if the total eligible amount for items paid with a meal card is $30, then the maximum allowable amount across all meal card payments in a split transaction will be capped at $30. This ensures that the combined meal card payments do not exceed the initial eligible amount.
