Overview
retailcloud's console allows for specific item configurations that optimize inventory management, especially when using barcode scanning or scales for items with embedded price and quantity. This guide walks you through setting up SKU types for streamlined and accurate POS transactions.
Accessing SKU Type Settings
-
Login to Console:
- Open retailcloud Console in your browser and log in.
-
Navigate to SKU Type Configuration:
- Go to the Catalog → Items → Item Level Config → SKU Type.
- This section allows you to designate how each SKU type will behave when scanned, with configurations like Embedded Price, Embedded Quantity, Force Quantity, and Force Weighing.
Setting SKU Type for Items
Creating or Modifying Items:
- For new items, enter all required fields in the Item Level Config.
- For existing items, locate and select the item you want to edit.
SKU Type Options:- Embedded Price: Scans will include the item’s price embedded in the barcode.
- Embedded Quantity: Scans will include the quantity embedded in the barcode.
- Force Quantity: Prompts for the number of items upon scan (useful for items sold by count, like bananas).
- Force Weighing: Uses a scale to determine weight upon scan (for items sold by weight). Scale can be set to lb, oz, etc.
Click Save once settings are configured.
SKU Types at the POS
Force Quantity on POS
- When scanned, a prompt will appear asking for the total quantity of the item being sold, allowing precise item quantity entry. The item will be added to the cart with the desired quantity that was entered in the prompt.
Force Weighing on POS
- When an item is scanned in POS with Force Weighing SKU type, a prompt will pop up asking for you to accept the weight, coming from the scale, for the item being sold. The item will be added to the cart with the weight received from the scale.
Embedded Price/Quantity on POS
- Embedded Price: Price is automatically pulled from the barcode upon scanning.
- Embedded Quantity: Quantity is pulled directly from the barcode as embedded.
For Embedded price/quantity items, it is mandatory to have the same ItemID as the UPC and it must be of 5 digits.
Barcode Formats for Embedded Price and Quantity
retailcloud supports EAN-13 or UPC-B 13-digit barcodes, enabling automatic reading of embedded price and quantity:
Embedded Price
-
02PPPPPxCCCCz format:
- 02 indicates the price/weight embedded in the barcode.
- PPPPP is a five-character product code (the SKU or PLU). This should be the same on both the scales and the POS. All five characters must be used, so if a product code is “14″ it will appear in the barcode as “00014″.
- x is a checksum for price/weight. It is generated by the labeler and provides a way for the price/weight to be verified as correct.
- CCCC represents the price/weight of the item. An item priced at 9.99 would appear as 0999.
- z is a checksum for the entire barcode.
- 0200450xCCCCz → 02 PLU (5 Digit) weight ck digit(x) CCCC (Weight) z (barcode ck digit) = 13 digits
-
Example: Barcode 0220005180433
- 02 (The "header," indicating that the barcode has embedded information)
- 20005 (SKU/PLU of the item)
- 1 (checksum)
- 8043 (price = $80.43)
- 3 (overall checksum)
Embedded Price 2
-
02PPPPPCCCCCz format:
- 02 indicates the price/weight embedded in the barcode. When you scan the barcode check if the product starts with "02" or "20" and the scan code length is 13.
- PPPPP is a five-character product code (the SKU or PLU). This should be the same on both the scales and the POS. All five characters must be used, so if a product code is “14″ it will appear in the barcode as “00014″.
- CCCCC represents the price/weight of the item. An item priced at 999.99 would appear as 99999.
- z is a checksum for the entire barcode.
- 0200450CCCCCz → 02 PLU (5 Digit) CCCCC (Weight) z (barcode ck digit) = 13 digits
-
Example: EAN13 Barcode 0220005180433
- 02 (The "header," indicating that the barcode has embedded information)
- 20005 (SKU/PLU of the item)
- 18043 (price = $180.43)
- 3 (overall checksum)
Embedded Price 3
Embedded Price Format with Department Codes
A 13-digit SKU format can also include a department code and separator:
-
DD1111SPPPPPC
- DD = 2-digit Department Code
- 1111 = 4 digit PLU
- S = Separator
- PPPPP = 5-digit Selling Price
- C = Checksum
-
Example: Barcode 0200315002045
- 02 (Department Code)
- 0031 (SKU/PLU)
- 5 (Separator)
- 00204 (Price = $2.04)
- 5 (overall checksum)
