Overview

The retailcloud’s  Label.It is an easy-to-use barcode label designing and printing add-on feature that prints barcodes, text, and graphics on Zebra printers. Label. It allows merchants to design and print labels from the very same location where we have all the information about our business.

Features 

  • A drag and drop interface where the user can design their own label templates and print bulk amount of labels using those templates with the Zebra label printers. 
  • Users will be able to drag fields like ItemID, UPC, Item Name, Barcode, etc., into the template. 
  • The templates can be saved and reused to print more labels later. 
  • A list of items is fetched from the database and users will be able to select the items they need to print labels for. 
  • Standard Label sizes like 2.5” X 2”, 2” X 1.75”, 1.75” X 1.75” are supported. Users can also create custom-sized labels with custom DPI(Dots Per Inch) settings also. 
  • Printing takes place by converting the templates designed into zpl code that is used by Zebra Printers. 

Prerequisites

Label.It Label Designing & Zebra Printing is an add-on to your existing licenses. To set up Label Designing & Zebra Printing your account needs to be enabled. Please contact support@retailcloud.com to enable Label.It, questions about designing or printing support.

Creating New Label Design

Follow the below steps to design a new label.

  1. Navigate to Utilities → Label Printing → Create New TemplateScreenshot_2023-03-10_at_7.06.29_PM.png
  2. A template designer page will appear with an attributes panel, a canvas, and a properties panel. Template Name: Enter a Template Name for the new template. 

    Width: Input the width for the label. The default is 2.

    Height: Input the height for the label. The default is 2.

    Unit: Select from Inches/CM.

  3. Drag the Item details and attributes to be displayed on the label and drop them on the canvas.
  4. Modify the properties of the dragged attributes from the properties panel. Width, Height, Position, etc., can be modified here. 
  5. To delete/deselect an item from the canvas, select the item and click the 'Erase' button. The 'Clear Canvas' button will remove all the items/attributes on the canvas.
  6. Click on Save Template.

When the user saves the template, all these fields also get saved with all the positions and dimensions. Fields like ItemID, UPC, and Barcode, etc., will be replaced with values associated with each item from the bulk print page.

Action Panel: Action panel is where dimensions like width, height, and DPI can be set.

Attributes Panel 

  • Attributes like ItemID, UPC, Barcode, Text, Image, Rectangle, Circle, etc., can be dragged from the toolbar onto the canvas. 
  • The following Item Attributes are supported by default :
    1.  ItemID 
    2. UPC 
    3. Item Name
    4. Selling Price 
    5. Cost price
    6. Geometric elements (Rectangle, Circle, Horizontal Line, Vertical Line) 
    7. Generic Text 
    8. Date 
    9. Images

All of the above requires transformations relative to the label size selected by the user. This will be performed automatically as the user changes the dimensions of the label. When the user saves the template, all these fields also get saved with all the positions and dimensions. Fields like ItemID, UPC, and Barcode, etc., will be replaced with values associated with each item from the bulk print page. 

Properties Panel 

  • The properties of the dragged attributes can be modified from the properties panel Width, Height, Position, etc., can be modified here. 
  • These attributes will be replaced once the data is loaded from db.

Canvas

  • The canvas is the visual representation of the label. It can be resized to custom widths, heights, and DPIs, all measured in inches.
  • The minimum possible dimension of the label will be 0.5 “ X 0.5 “. The maximum supported label size will be 10 “ X 10 “.
  • Zebra Printers supports 200DPI, 300DPI or 600DPI as a standard, and these are all supported in this feature. Additionally, DPI settings can be tweaked at the Canvas also.Screenshot_2023-03-10_at_7.47.09_PM.png

Printing Label

  • A bulk print page where items can be fetched with a list view that displays all the items.
  • Users can select the required items from this page and the selected items will be printed with the selected template.

Follow the steps below to print a label

    1. Navigate to Utilities → Label PrintingStart Batch Print from Template
  1. Select the template from the dropdown.
  2. Select the Zebra printer that the labels will be printed from.
  3. Search for the items from the Search Items box to be printed.
  4. Modify the number of labels to print.
  5. Click on Print.

Note: Label printing will not get initialized until retailcloud client middleware is run.

Managing Templates

Manage all the templates you create in one place. Saved label design templates will be listed here which can be deleted as required.
